Rain Clouds Moving In - 6" x 6" - Oil on Canvas Panel - Available here
Day 20 - Strada Easel 31 day painting challenge. This afternoon, I went out to Bull creek, and was struggling to finish my painting of the creek before the sun was completely covered by the clouds rolling in. I happened to turn around, and was amazed at this beautiful scene that had been developing in back of me. The first painting was immediately abandoned...I grabbed another panel (fortunately, it had already been toned in a light red/orange tint), mixed up some juicy piles of grey blue and brown paint and got to work. The white rocky ground in the foreground was very light against the brush. Sometimes you just luck out. The only way you can catch the ones that really speak to you is to get out there and try and try again.
Patricia Butler loves to paint. Living and working in Austin, Texas, she is drawn to the beauty around her and the challenge of capturing the essence of the scene before her. She counts herself very blessed to be living in Austin, which is a vibrant, growing city, and, with its multitude of lovely parks and nearby lakes and hill country, it presents endless inspiration. She is a founding member of Plein Air Austin, and enjoys painting with the group any chance she gets.
